Volunteering

We have been extremely fortunate over the years in having extremely loyal Fundraising and Support groups – often family and friends of the people using our services. They have given enormous amounts of commitment and time to the Charity, helping to build and maintain the houses, purchase equipment, and generally lending a hand at times of need. They have helped us to grow our services and extend our support to many more people with learning disabilities across the country. We are grateful to you all…

However, we all appreciate that nowadays “spare time” is an extremely precious commodity. There are lots of people no less enthusiastic to lend a hand, but not with quite so much time to give – work and family commitments may be extensive or they may feel that they wish to divide their volunteering time between a number of different organisations.

Our Self Unlimited Volunteer Networkis set up to meet this problem head on. All we ask of our volunteers is to give time when they can; in some cases, this may only be a few hours a month, or even a year. A much easier undertaking to commit to, it stills means an awful lot to us and would help our beneficiaries enormously, both in social and economic terms.

If you are skilled in a particular area, this could be of tremendous importance to Self Unlimited. Volunteering as a consultant enables the organisation to benefit from your valuable experience, and if it is a practical skill, you could make a tremendous difference to our many workshops and training services. Our activities are so varied, there is bound to be one to suit.

We value our Volunteers, even if they don’t have immediately transferable skills. To us, there is nothing more valuable than another pair of hands! Whether helping with outings or recreational pursuits, or with drama and music, the list is endless. You may also feel that your skills would be better utilised in fundraising pursuits.

We offer full support and training to help you as a Volunteer, but most of all, we offer you the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives… and plenty of fun!

If you have never considered fundraising, then why not do it now?

Come and talk over the possibilities with us.
