The Big Event

In Control's Big Event

BT Convention Centre

Self Unlimited is exhibiting at In Control’s ‘The Big Event’ this year, which it aims will be the best event this year on ‘personalisation’. Held at the BT Convention Centre at Albert Dock, Liverpool on Tuesday 16 March 2010, the event programme looks as if it will justify In Control’s promise!

It is anticipated that over 2,000 delegates will attend the event, which will have over 100 exhibitor stands and 50 workshops covering every aspect of personalisation. Some top speakers will add their weight to the Programme – people such as Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) since 2006 and previously Chief Advisor on political strategy to the Prime Minister, and adventurer Mark Pollock, now an inspirational speaker and author. Dame Jo Williams, who moved from her role as Chief Executive of Mencap to Chair of Trustees of In Control, will launch the organisation’s Phase Three report demonstrating the most up-to-date practice in personalisation internationally.

And on a lighter note, ‘Abnormally Funny People’, a group of very gifted and extremely funny comedians, most of whom are disabled, will host Comedy Club 2010 as part of the day’s entertainment.

There will also be plenty of opportunity of asking your own questions at the event’s Question Time... so start writing those questions down now!

However, don’t forget to visit Stand 47 and say hello to everyone from Self Unlimited. Hopefully, see you there!

A bit about In Control

In Control is a social enterprise that was set up in 2003 to transform the current social care system into a system of Self-Directed Support.

Its mission is now to create a new welfare system in which everyone is in control of their lives as full citizens. In Control is a partnership working with different kinds of friends and allies – for example, citizen members, local authority and NHS members, providers, commercial organisations, sponsors and ambassadors. In Control also has over 120 local authority members that are working to change their systems.

Today, In Control Partnerships is a social enterprise - a charity and an independent company – which works in partnership with citizens and government, and with charities and commercial companies.
