Our day activities at North Road in Ponteland have undergone huge changes with the opening a popular visitor attraction in the area. The Garden and Maze at North Road was opened in January 2008 by long term resident Hew Wright, assisted by local celebrity Peter Beardsley. This horticulture facility provides training for many people with learning disabilities, and has welcomed many visitors throughout the year.
Our restaurant, ‘Hadrian’s Café’, adjacent to the Garden provides wonderful home cooked food as part of its food preparation and serving training. It has proved very popular with many local people, including staff from the neighbouring Police Headquarters, and provides vocational skills training within a real business environment.
‘Blooming Marvellous’ is one of our new ventures that provides gardening services to the local area, helping many local people by mowing, pruning and keeping their gardens tidy throughout the year. It is a wonderful way for our clients to undertake vocational training whilst providing a really valued service to the local community.
We also offer many recreational and leisure activities including our Art Studio and Pottery, both of which give clients the opportunity to express their artistic and creative talents, and also our Four Seasons course, which allows everyone to undertake their choice of different activities each week, including IT, Cookery, Crafts, Music and Jigsaws.
All of our activities are tailored to the needs and capabilities of each person. This can range from therapeutic activities for those less able to vocational and accredited training for many wishing to pursue supported or real work placements.
