Service User Champion

Service User Champion

Self Unlimited has appointed Len Walker as Service User Champion to give people receiving support from the organisation more influence on the way the Charity develops.

The appointment is part of our commitment to enabling people with learning disabilities to live as independently as possible in the way that they want to at the heart of the community.

Len, who is based at Self Unlimited’s Central Office in Kibworth, Leicestershire, has worked for the Charity in a variety of roles for 25 years, and will now be responsible for championing our service users across all of our eight regional areas.

Self Unlimited focuses on the rights and individuality of each person that it serves, and Len’s appointment will lead to new ways to involve them in the Charity’s work. Initially, he will represent the views of people using our services, but his objective is to find ways to enable them to express their own views directly, and to give them more influence on the Charity.

Len said: “This is a great challenge, and I am really looking forward to giving the people we support a greater voice. I’ll be talking with the wonderful people we support at our sites all over the country and bringing their ideas and aspirations to the fore. It could just be the best job in the organisation.”
