We aim to offer people an increasingly wide range of activities from which to choose that will allow them to undertake new and challenging experiences and to increase skills. Using Person Centred Planning, we ensure that everyone has the opportunity of working towards their own personal goals in an environment that encourages participation and promotes increased independence.
In the South Coast region, Self Unlimited offers a whole variety of activities, both educational and recreational, to enable people to develop to the best of their abilities.
Our training includes a unique experience to learn some of the many tasks involved in managing our own orchard at Walberton with its 1200 apple trees and the production, bottling and selling of our own highly-prized “Sussex Orchards” pure ‘organic’ apple juice.
Horticulture is a popular activity at Walberton, too, and the team is kept constantly busy working in the greenhouse, orchard or keeping the landscaped gardens in pristine condition. A highly therapeutic activity, CARE is also able to offer vocational training for people who wish to follow this path to seek employment.
The Woodcraft Workshop at Walberton offers people the opportunity to learn woodcraft techniques using a wide variety of specialist tools, and the team produces a range of exceptional quality items, often bespoke, from garden furniture to small turned goods.
The IT Suite at Walberton gives everyone the chance to learn computer skills and to gain confidence in the use of everyday software packages. In an increasingly hi-tech world, this experience is invaluable and helps people to be able to access a wealth of opportunities in their everyday lives.
Many people using our services may wish to take the skills they have learnt and use them to gain supported employment or real work out in the wider community. We have therefore established Strong for Work, a service that provides support and guidance to people looking to learn the appropriate practical skills that will help them to achieve their goal.
For people with more complex needs that require extra help in their daily lives, our Focus Skills service takes a holistic approach, encouraging and supporting each person to master everyday skills while offering increased assistance to enable them to experience a wide range of therapeutic, yet stimulating, activities.
